Trafalgar, pure History and pure Magic

One of our recommendations to get to know and enjoy the best of the area is a visit to the Trafalgar Lighthouse, just about 20 minutes from Conil by car, in Los Caños de Meca (belonging to our beloved neighboring town Barbate). As is already known by many, the well-known battle of Trafalgar in which so many lost their lives, took place in these waters in front of Cape of Trafalgar in 1805. This battle pitted the British fleet against a combined Franco-Spanish fleet, hence the historical interest in this coastal enclave. Also, nowadays the Tómbolo de Trafalgar (isthmus of Trafalgar) is considered a Natural Monument, hence its landscape interest as well. You can also access it from Conil through a path that connects with the Cape Trafalgar, crossing the beaches and watchtowers along the coast of the towns of Barbate, Vejer de la Frontera and Conil de la Frontera. The route along the coast offers an interesting sample of dune systems with characteristic vegetation, and beautiful marine views of the entire coastline. Perhaps the magic of this enclave lies in the nostalgia for that sad historical event, or in the beauty of the natural environment, or in the majesty of the Lighthouse, or surely, in the combination of all of them together. The important thing is that you do not miss it, we recommend this unavoidable visit in which nature, history and beauty come together in this incredible Cadiz enclave.
